He whakamihi ki a Maruia Jensen, Tajim Mohammed Kapa ratou ko Dave Whitehead mo te kaha o ou koutou korero.

Congratulations to the winners of our Pitching competition held at the Hui-a-tau on Saturday. Each receives a base fund of $10,000.00 toward their short film production and on going support from Nga Aho Whakaari.

The competition was of a very high standard with some extraordinary stories pitched. Maruia’s – ‘Soul Healing’ is based on whanau experience of grief. Tajim’s – ‘Pati’ finds humour in grave circumstances and Dave Whitehead’s – ‘Tane Mahuta’ is a short animation as part of a larger project.

Maruia and Tajim are cousins but had no idea the other was competing. so it’s a joyous celebration for their whanau. Keep reading our posts to see how our film makers progress.

Nga Aho Whakaari Pitching competitions are open to all new comers and is our contribution to building capacity in the Māori screen sector. A new round of funding will be available later in the year so titromai e te whanau.
