Winner of the Nga Aho Whakaari Short Film Pitch at Rotorua Indigenous Film Festival – Te Mauri Kingi no Tainui, Te Arawa ratou ko Tuhoe.

Te Mauri pitched his idea for an animated short named “The Marae Again.” A lighthearted look at life on the marae .. it’s guaranteed to be a crack up.

We look forward to working closely with him in get his film completed. He receives $7,500.00 to set him on his way.

There were 16 pitches in all. They were of a high standard demonstrating the diversity and highly creative nature of our story tellers.

Runners up, both receiving $2,500 from Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga were Bridgette Tapsell with her script idea “Hāngi Pants” and Maruia Jensen who has finished her first draft of “Moving On”, a dark love story.

This is just the inaugural Rotorua Indigenous Film Festival and already promises more wonderful mahi toi to come.
