Board Member
Iwi: Nga Puhi

Tamalene has been involved in the film and television industry, in various capacities, for almost 30 years. A consummate producer, she was part of the lobby group that pushed for a separate Māori channel and also served as Interim Television Manager for Te Māngai Paho in the lead up to the advent of Māori Television. Tamalene remembers a time when it was possible to make kaupapa Māori and Pasifika films with an almost entirely Māori / Pasifika crew and cast - such was the strength and support of the industry. Her decision to join the board of Ngā Aho Whakaari was strongly influenced by the desire to lend her support to any process that not only increases the number of Māori programme makers, but to ensure they are given ample opportunities and the necessary support for them to thrive.
