“In my first year as Toihau (2016) we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Nga Aho Whakaari and took the opportunity to pay tribute to the founders of our Māori screen industry. Many of them were my close friends and mentors and I think they would be proud of the work created by our younger generation of film and programme makers. We have celebrated some milestones recently with the launch of Te Rautaki o Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga but we can never be blasé about the work still to be done in order to attain the aspirations of our pioneer tupuna film makers.
